The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Workshop on Putting Phone Data (MPD) to Work for Statistics will be convened from 19 to 22 May 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The
overarching objective of the workshop is to build regional capacity for the necessary knowledge and hands-on skills to integrate a MPD pipeline into the respective SADC Member States national data
systems.
The workshop is being convened through the support from the SADC Regional Statistics Project, supported by the World Bank Board, which seeks to strengthen the institutional capacity of SADC Member States to produce, disseminate and use quality statistics while increasing regional harmonization and collaboration.
The Putting Mobile Phone Data (MPD) to Work for Statistics SADC Regional Workshop is particularly a capacity building event intended for Government Ministries responsible for ICT, National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), Data Protection Authorities (DPAs),
Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), National Statistics Offices (NSOs), Data Scientists, Other Ministry Department Agencies (MDAs) implementing MPD projects, SADC ICT Subsidiary Organisations, Research and Development Institutions, Academia and
Youth.
